MCP
Overview

Civic IQ MCP

Civic IQ MCP is a server that gives an AI assistant access to Civic IQ's government data: RFPs and bids, pre-RFP signals from council and board meetings, vendor spending records, public contracts, and agency contacts.

You connect it once by pasting a URL into your assistant's connector settings. From then on you ask your assistant questions in plain language, and it searches Civic IQ to answer them.

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting assistants to external data. You do not need to know anything about it to use Civic IQ MCP.

What you can ask for

Once connected, your assistant can look up:

  • Open RFPs and bids across US state, local and education agencies
  • Pre-RFP signals: projects, budgets and purchases discussed in council and board meetings, often 6 to 18 months before a solicitation is published
  • Agency spend: which vendors an agency pays, for what, and how much
  • Public contracts and procurement records
  • Decision-maker contacts: procurement officers, department heads, IT directors and other agency staff
  • Agency geography: agencies within a radius of a zip code or another agency
  • Your digest workspaces: the AI-scored signals your Civic IQ workspaces surface each day

It can also save a recurring search that emails you new results, and enrol a contact in an outbound email sequence.

Coverage

More than 100,000 US public agencies: cities, counties, school districts, special districts, state agencies, higher education, and authorities.

This is SLED only. Federal procurement is not covered.

Reading and writing

Civic IQ MCP is read-only apart from three tools:

ToolWhat it changes
create_alertSaves a recurring search on your account
delete_alertRemoves one
launch_sequenceSends real email to a contact

These are marked as write actions, so Claude and ChatGPT can ask you before running them. Everything else only reads.
