Chrome Extension - User Guide

How to use the Civic IQ extension to research agencies and government contacts as you browse.

How it works: Civic IQ works in the background as you browse. Open an agency's website, or a LinkedIn profile of someone who works in government, and the extension automatically matches it to an agency in our database and surfaces everything we know.

1. Open an agency website

Navigate to any government agency's website (for example, a school district or city site) and click the Civic IQ icon in your Chrome toolbar. The extension automatically matches the current page to an agency on file and shows you a quick snapshot: the agency's name, location, and how confident the match is.

  • Open in Civic IQ: jump straight into the full agency record on the Civic IQ platform.
  • Find contacts: pull up people at this agency without leaving the page.
  • AI summary: generate an instant, plain-English summary of the agency.
  • Ask AI: ask a free-form question about the agency.

2. Get an instant AI summary

Click the "Summary" tab, then "Summarize for my company" to get a plain-English overview of the agency - key numbers (contracts, vendors, contract volume), what's currently happening, and any recent, relevant activity such as budget planning or upcoming programs, each with its source and date.

3. Find the right contacts

Click the "Contacts" tab to search everyone on file at the agency. Search by name or job title, or use your saved personas (e.g. Principal, Yearbook Advisor) to quickly pull up the people most relevant to what you sell. Each contact shows verified emails and phone numbers, and one-click actions to add them to a sequence or push them to Attio / HubSpot / Salesforce.

4. Ask AI a question

Click the "Ask AI" tab to ask anything about the agency in your own words — for example, "What should I lead with on a first call?" The extension answers using what's actually on file for that agency (or tells you plainly when something, like a specific contract or vendor, hasn't been identified yet), and suggests concrete talking points and topics to cover.

5. Works on LinkedIn too

The extension isn't limited to agency websites. Open the LinkedIn profile of anyone who works in government, and Civic IQ will match them to their agency automatically — giving you the same snapshot, summary, contacts, and Ask AI tools without needing to search for the agency separately.

Tip: if the extension ever matches the wrong agency, click "Change" on the matched agency panel to search and select the correct one.
