Chrome Extension — Installation Guide

A step-by-step walkthrough for downloading, loading, and signing in to the Civic IQ Chrome extension.

Before you start: This guide is for Google Chrome (or any Chromium-based browser, e.g. Edge or Brave). You'll need the extension zip file provided by your Civic IQ contact, and your Civic IQ login credentials.

Step 1: Download the extension file

Download the Civic IQ Chrome extension zip file shared with you.

Step 2: Extract the zip file

Locate the downloaded file and extract (unzip) it:

• Windows: Right-click the zip file and select "Extract All", then choose a destination folder.
• Mac: Double-click the zip file — it will automatically extract into a folder in the same location.

You should end up with a folder (for example, "Chrome-extension") containing the extension's files.

Step 3: Open Chrome's extensions page

Open Google Chrome, then click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar, then "Manage Extensions".

Step 4: Turn on Developer mode

In the top-right corner of the Extensions page, find the "Developer mode" toggle and switch it on.

Step 5: Load the extension

Click the "Load unpacked" button that appears in the top-left area of the page. In the file browser that opens, navigate to and select the extracted "Chrome-extension" folder (select the folder itself, not a file inside it), then click "Select Folder" (Windows) or "Open" (Mac).

The Civic IQ extension should now appear in your list of extensions and its icon should show up in your Chrome toolbar. If you don't see the icon, click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar and pin Civic IQ so it's always visible.

Step 6: Log in to Civic IQ

Click the Civic IQ icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the extension. Enter your Civic IQ email address and password, then click "Log In". Once signed in, you're ready to start using the extension.

Note: Because this extension is loaded manually ("unpacked") rather than installed from the Chrome Web Store, Chrome may occasionally show a reminder that developer-mode extensions are running. This is expected and does not affect functionality.
